NUI NavAid Installation - Brent Charlie
Commencing August 2022 - a new NUI (normally unmanned installation) NavAid system will be installed on the Brent Charlie Oil and Gas Installation
Brent Charlie is a manned production platform which served the Brent and Penguins reservoirs. The installation has now entered the Cessation of Production (CoP) phase and is due to down staff in late 2022. From August 2022 a NUI NavAid lighting system will be in operation, through to mid-2023. The specification of the system is as follows:-
Two off main white lanterns with a minimum range of 10NM to be mounted in the north-east and south-west corners of the platform. Both lanterns will be synchronised and exhibit flashing a Morse ‘U’ character every 15 seconds. A photocell shall be provided to ensure the lanterns operate within the required period of 15 minutes before sunset to sunrise and whenever visibility is below 2NM. Each lantern shall have a backup in case of failure of the main lantern. The main white lanterns shall have an IALA Category 1 availability factor (99.8%).
It is proposed that that the installation and subsequent commissioning of the new NUI NavAid lighting system will commence around the 8th August 2022. Once successful commissioning has been executed, it the existing lighting as detailed in the CtL permit (CL/110/6 V1) will be switched off permanently. This will effectively mean that only the NUI NavAid lighting will be in operation from August 2022 (install date) to the date of topsides lift (mid 2023). Should a fault occur with the new NUI NavAid lighting system, the existing system will be reenergised until such time as the new NUI NavAid is repaired and is back in service. The current foghorn capability as detailed in CL/110/6 V1 will be retained until down staff in December 2022 (current date). Foghorns will be switched off at down staff (there will be no power generation capability available after down staff).
Further notifications as required by CL/110/7 V2 will be submitted in due course.

Partially Exposed Conductor Stump - Ketch
Following Operational challenges during the Ketch conductor severance and removal campaign, the 26 inch conductor for KA08 has been severed at a shallower depth of -8ft, leaving a partially exposed stump. ROV footage has observed a crater around the conductor with approximately 2 ft of conductor sitting above the base of the crater. The crater is estimated to be 4 m in diameter with a maximum depth of10 ft.
The crater is known to be naturally backfilling with seabed sediment and is expected to continue to do so, particularly during winter months. The incremental risk posed by the 2 ft conductor stump is considered to be negligible.

This will be followed by an Anchor Handling Tug (AHT) which will recover the Flexible risers and the surface sections of the flowlines and umbilicals before releasing the Mid Water Arch (MWA) and floating it to the surface. The MWA will then be towed to Lerwick in the Shetland Isles for disposal.
Finally another CSV will be in field to perform the recovery of the MWA clump weights, Riser Base Structure, rigid spoolpiece and pipeline sections along with any remaining concrete protection mattresses and grout bags. The 500m zone will then be surveyed for debris, the debris will be recovered and a final 500m zone MBES clearance survey will be performed to confirm the 500m zone is clear of any oil field related debris and that no snag hazards remain. An over trawl survey will then be performed by the SFF to confirm there are no snag hazards before issuing a seabed clearance certificate and opening up the area to fishing activity.
All the vessels will be positioned within the ex Northern Producer FPF 500m Zone during these activities with the AHT also towing the MWA to Lerwick along a predetermined tow route.

NW Schooner Subsea Well - Missing Debris Cap
The Debris Cap for the NW Schooner subsea well has been identified as missing, leaving the wellhead more vulnerable to snagging on fishing nets. The Debris Cap is 4.5m x 3.9m x 1.4m and approx 3.5 tonnes, whilst the wellhead stands 6m off the seabed.
The approximate dimensions of the Debris Cap is 4.5m x 3.9m x 1.4m with a weight of approximately 3.5 tonnes. It is not known whether the Debris Cap is lying within a 500m zone of the well. A 200m x 200m area centred on the well has been searched, with no sight of it. Therefore the exact location of the Debris Cap is unknown. The loss of the Debris Cap leaves the NW Schooner wellhead more vulnerable to snagging from trawler/fishing nets. The approximate size of the tree with over trawl legs deployed is 7.8m x 7.8m x 6m high.

Fishing Hazard - Dons Fields Decommissioning Works
The Northern Producer FPF has been removed from it’s moorings and towed to port for decommissioning but the subsea assets within the Northern Producer FPF 500m zone will remain in place on the seabed and could pose a snag hazard to fishermen
The Northern Producer FPF has been removed from it’s moorings and towed to port for decommissioning but the subsea assets within the Northern Producer FPF 500m zone will remain in place on the seabed and could pose a snag hazard to fishermen therefore the Thistle Alpha Platform ERRV will act as a guard vessel until the 500m zone clearance is performed in 2022.
This includes the 8 No Risers draped over the Mid Water Arch (MWA), the MWA Clumpweight Guide Frame, the Riser Base Structure (RBS) and the surface laid pipelines / Umbilicals. The MWA will remain in the water column at a depth of 112m and will remain tethered to the seabed via the clumpweight guide frame. The risers will remain draped over the MWA with one end on the seabed and the other end will remain connected to the RBS so that they remain stable. The existing stabilisation mattresses will remain in place over the surface laid pipelines/umbilicals.

Application for Offshore Development Area - Seagull Umbilical
Neptune E&P UK Ltd would like to request to establish an additional offshore development area in Block 22/29C for the Seagull Umbilical location.
The Seagull Field is located on UK licence P1622 Block 22/29C. 17km south of the Eastern Trough area Project (ETAP) Central Production Facility (CPF). Neptune will develop the Seagull reservoir as a subsea tieâback to existing seabed infrastructure over the BP operated ETAP CPF. The development is high pressure and high temperature and Neptune is the Operator for the subsea development. Neptune will also drill and complete the Seagull Wells and shall retain overall Project responsibility.
The Seagull development will require installation of new subsea equipment as follows: Four Xmas Trees; a 4 slot manifold; a 17km control umbilical (including hydraulic, electrical and chemical supplies) direct from ETAP to Seagull; a 5km 10” production pipeline; a 5km 3.5” wash water pipeline from Seagull to the existing Egret manifold; and a Wye manifold adjacent to the existing Egret manifold, through which the new Seagull production pipeline will connect with the Heron cluster pipeline system connected back to the ETAP CPF. From ETAP CPF Seagull oil and gas will be exported to shore through the GAEL and FPS pipeline systems to the Kinneil Terminal onshore.
We already have an ODA established covering the Seagull drill centre and the Egret manifold and would like to request to extend the ODA to incorporate the entire Seagull works area. The extended Offshore development area will be required commencing from September 2021 â March 2023.
