Installation of a new drill centre manifold and riser base structure - Abigail Project

A new drill centre manifold and a new riser base structure will be installed as part of the Abigail project. The Abigail drill centre is 12km west of the existing Stella MDC manifold. The riser base structure will be installed at the existing FPP-1 floating production facility.

As part of the Abigail project we will be installing a two slot drill centre manifold (piled) and a riser base structure  (gravity based) containing an SSIV.  The current project schedule indicates that the installation workscope is due to commence offshore in early May 2022. The coordinates of the planned locations for the structures is summarised below.   The Abigail drill centre is 12km west of the existing Stella MDC manifold.  The riser base structure will be installed at the existing FPP-1 floating production facility.

Due to the associated increased inventory entering the Greater Stella Area production flowline system from Abigail a subsea isolation valve (SSIV) is also required at the FPF-1, therefore the project includes the retrofit installation of a production riser base structure (containing an SSIV) and a rigid tie-in spool in between the static and dynamic sections of the flexible production flowline (at the FPF-1).  Controls to the production riser base will be provided via a jumper from the existing Stella umbilical riser base.  The riser base will be installed during the same campaign as the manifold installation, and will be tied in as part of the DSV campaign in August.

The structure installation is due to commence 2nd May (mobilisation) and complete by 11th May (demobilisation).  The infield dates for installation of the structures are scheduled to be the 4th and 5th, and then the 10th and 11th for piling of the manifold.

Partially Exposed Conductor Stump - Ketch

Following Operational challenges during the Ketch conductor severance and removal campaign, the 26 inch conductor for KA08 has been severed at a shallower depth of -8ft, leaving a partially exposed stump. ROV footage has observed a crater around the conductor with approximately 2 ft of conductor sitting above the base of the crater. The crater is estimated to be 4 m in diameter with a maximum depth of10 ft.

The crater is known to be naturally backfilling with seabed sediment and is expected to continue to do so, particularly during winter months. The incremental risk posed by the 2 ft conductor stump is considered to be negligible.

A 12km 6”/10” pipe in pipe production pipeline with a piggybacked 3” gas lift pipeline, and an umbilical will be installed as part of the Abigail project. They will be installed between a new Abigail drill center manifold and the existing Greater Stella Area Main Drill Centre (MDC) manifold.

As part of the Abigail project we will be installing a 12km 6”/10” pipe in pipe production pipeline with a piggybacked 3” gas lift pipeline. The pipelines will be installed between the Abigail drill centre (a new manifold will be installed and one production well initially) and the existing Greater Stella Area Main Drill Centre Manifold.  The pipelines will be installed using a reel lay vessel and will then be trenched and buried for protection.  The current project schedule indicates that the installation workscope is due to commence offshore in May 2022.

The pipeline coordinates for the start and end points are summarised in the table below.  The pipeline crosses the existing Ithaca Stella Gas Export Pipeline (trenched and buried), and the crossing will be rockdumped for protection, the location is also detailed in the table below.  The installation is planned to commence in May and conclude end of August/September.  The initial planned campaigns are structure installation early May, followed by pipeline installation, pipeline trenching, umbilical installation (into the trench) and then backfilling.  The Dive Support Vessel is the last workscope and mobilises in August to perform the spoolpiece tie-ins and leaktesting.

The pipeline installation is due to commence 26th May (mobilisation) and complete by 5th June (demobilisation).  The infield dates are 1st June to 4th June.

Topsides removal activities to be undertaken at the Dunlin Alpha installation location, commencing on or around 01/04/22, for a period of several months

Dunlin Alpha topsides removal decommissioning activities are planned to be undertaken in 2 separate campaigns:

  • The initial campaign is planned for April – May 2022 and will involve use of the Heerema HLV "Thialf" to separate and remove a number of platform modules.  These modules will be transported to the Vats facility in Norway for onshore recycling and disposal.
  • The second campaign is planned to commence on or around June 1st and will involve use of Heerema SSCV "Sleipner" to remove further platform modules and then lift and remove the Dunlin Module Support Frame (MSF). These will then be transported to the Vats facility in Norway for onshore recycling and disposal.

The Dunlin Alpha - Aid to Navigation unit will be turned off at this time and the HLV / SSCV will act as mitigation to reduce navigational risk during this period. A temporary Aid to Navigation will be placed on the installation during any periods where a decommissioning vessel is not in attendance at location (ref: Consent to Locate permit CL/469/2 - attached).

Subsea Clearance Project - Ex Northern Producer FPF 500m Zone

EnQuest Heather Ltd intends to undertake the seabed clearance works in the ex Northern Producer FPF 500m zone in relation to Dons Field decommissioning works commencing 01 April 2022.

The workscope comprises of several ROV Construction Support Vessels (CSV) performing the seabed clearance of the risers, Mid Water Arch, Riser Base Structure and surface laid spoolpieces, pipelines and umbilicals up to the point of burial.

Initially an ROV Construction Support Vessel (CSV) will perform the recovery of the concrete protection mattresses from over the surface laid spoolpieces, pipelines and umbilicals and will perform the cuts on these items up to their point of burial at full trench depth or start of rockdump. This will be followed by an Anchor Handling Tug (AHT) which will recover the Flexible risers and the surface sections of the flowlines and umbilicals before releasing the Mid Water Arch (MWA) and floating it to the surface. The MWA will then be towed to Lerwick in the Shetland Isles for disposal.

Finally another CSV will be in field to perform the recovery of the MWA clump weights, Riser Base Structure, rigid spoolpiece and pipeline sections along with any remaining concrete protection mattresses and grout bags. The 500m zone will then be surveyed for debris, the debris will be recovered and a final 500m zone MBES clearance survey will be performed to confirm the 500m zone is clear of any oil field related debris and that no snag hazards remain. An over trawl survey will then be performed by the SFF to confirm there are no snag hazards before issuing a seabed clearance certificate and opening up the area to fishing activity.

All the vessels will be positioned within the ex Northern Producer FPF 500m Zone during these activities with the AHT also towing the MWA to Lerwick along a predetermined tow route.

NW Schooner Subsea Well - Missing Debris Cap

The Debris Cap for the NW Schooner subsea well has been identified as missing, leaving the wellhead more vulnerable to snagging on fishing nets. The Debris Cap is 4.5m x 3.9m x 1.4m and approx 3.5 tonnes, whilst the wellhead stands 6m off the seabed.

The approximate dimensions of the Debris Cap is 4.5m x 3.9m x 1.4m with a weight of approximately 3.5 tonnes. It is not known whether the Debris Cap is lying within a 500m zone of the well. A 200m x 200m area centred on the well has been searched, with no sight of it. Therefore the exact location of the Debris Cap is unknown. The loss of the Debris Cap leaves the NW Schooner wellhead more vulnerable to snagging from trawler/fishing nets. The approximate size of the tree with over trawl legs deployed is 7.8m x 7.8m x 6m high.

The Northern Producer FPF has been removed from it’s moorings and towed to port for decommissioning but the subsea assets within the Northern Producer FPF 500m zone will remain in place on the seabed and could pose a snag hazard to fishermen therefore the Thistle Alpha Platform ERRV will act as a guard vessel until the 500m zone clearance is performed in 2022.

The risers will remain draped over the MWA with one end on the seabed and the other end will remain connected to the RBS so that they remain stable. The existing stabilisation mattresses will remain in place over the surface laid pipelines/umbilicals.

Application for Offshore Development Area - Seagull Umbilical

Neptune E&P UK Ltd would like to request to establish an additional offshore development area in Block 22/29C for the Seagull Umbilical location.

The Seagull Field is located on UK licence P1622 Block 22/29C. 17km south of the Eastern Trough area Project (ETAP) Central Production Facility (CPF). Neptune will develop the Seagull reservoir as a subsea tie‐back to existing seabed infrastructure over the BP operated ETAP CPF. The development is high pressure and high temperature and Neptune is the Operator for the subsea development. Neptune will also drill and complete the Seagull Wells and shall retain overall Project responsibility.

The Seagull development will require installation of new subsea equipment as follows: Four Xmas Trees; a 4 slot manifold; a 17km control umbilical (including hydraulic, electrical and chemical supplies) direct from ETAP to Seagull; a 5km 10” production pipeline; a 5km 3.5” wash water pipeline from Seagull to the existing Egret manifold; and a Wye manifold adjacent to the existing Egret manifold, through which the new Seagull production pipeline will connect with the Heron cluster pipeline system connected back to the ETAP CPF. From ETAP CPF Seagull oil and gas will be exported to shore through the GAEL and FPS pipeline systems to the Kinneil Terminal onshore.

We already have an ODA established covering the Seagull drill centre and the Egret manifold and would like to request to extend the ODA to incorporate the entire Seagull works area. The extended Offshore development area will be required commencing from September 2021 ‐ March 2023.
